Five-ounce tubes of toothpaste labeled Colgate and sold in discount stores in four states are being recalled because they may contain a diethylene glycol, a chemical found in antifreeze, according to the importer. A Food and Drug Administration official, Doug Arbesfeld, confirmed that the chemical was found in a product with the Colgate label, but he said the agency was unsure if it was Colgate or a counterfeit. The toothpaste was sold in discount stores in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Maryland. “Made in South Africa” is printed on the box. Varieties include regular, gel, triple and herbal. Consumers can return the toothpaste to the place of purchase for a refund, MS USA Trading said. (AP)

In today’s world, buying toothpaste at a drugstore is not even safe any more. There might not be anything safe anymore if such a daily object like toothpaste turns out to contain chemical. Because our world is very high tech and has developed to full limit, there is a higher chance of hiding chemical or even worse toxins in our daily materials. The more technology develops the more we are vulnerable to negative effects from it.

It is not easy to know whether what you are buying is harmful to you or not. However we must have in mind that anything can happen in today’s world. 911 happened and no one expected it. Bombings and terror happens almost everyday in some places around the world. This complicating world is turning our lives even more miserable than years ago. It may be that the days when we knew nothing about computers and cell phones were better days. The most that could happen was getting executed for wrongdoing.

Although we may think that the world has gotten a lot more convenient, there are many negative effects to it that can kill us. Even toothpaste that we take for granted could have almost gotten us. Believe it or not the world is developing into a scary one.
